Here's my last post from the Flourish Workshop: Light's Out/Boudoir sessions. These are fun sexy sessions designed for your finance or husband. Every session is different based on personality and style. You'll see in Meagan's, we played with old film reels and a camera. All are tastefully done with flattering angles and lighting so that any woman will feel comfortable in front of the camera.

Here are a few of my images from the bridal sessions at the Flourish Workshop. The gorgeous dresses are from Bluegrass Bride in Lexington. If you are looking for your wedding dress, bridesmaid dress, cocktail dress, or formal gown, you should check it out. Makeup was done by Ana Crane Simpson. I highly recommend hiring a makeup artist for your wedding day and any other photography sessions (bridals, engagement, lights out, etc). Even if you are usually good with makeup, makeup artists know the best makeup for photographs. Rodney Farmer did the hairstyling from Salon Figaro 859-489-8637. I think he did a great job too. I love doing bridal sessions! Email us at bliss@angela-photo.com if you are interested in scheduling your bridal session (even if it's after your wedding).

The third session at Flourish was a surprise for the attendees up until the last moment. It was quite an experience for everyone. The gals were amazing. None of which are professional models. They were absolutely wonderful to work with. Kitty set up the clothing and the styling. She placed the girls into the same settings of the bridals, with the same lighting I had set up, and it was amazing to see how applicable the settings were! I have a few sessions such as these set up for a few of my brides next year. I love how the images are sensual but not over-the-top sexual. They hint and linger. They cajole and coax. They are the perfect intimate gift for your loved one -- or just for yourself!

Oh and something I have been meaning to mention: This amazing makeup artistry was done by my absolute favorite makeup artist in Lexington: Ana Crane-Simpson. She is fantastic and so great to work with. I use her on every project I can. If you need a makeup artist for your wedding your really should give her a call. She even made me feel gorgeous for our team's photo session back in October!

The third day of Flourish was all about photography sessions. We set up a two-part engagement session, lead by Kim, a three-part bridal session led by yours truly and a four-part lights-out/boudoir/femme couture session, lead by Kitty. The latter two sessions were all done in the studio with the studio lighting set-ups that I put together. My husband, Gary and myself often work together on lighting projects. Typically I choose the look, style and feeling of the shoot and (when he is available) we work together to choose the best lighting. For the bridal sessions I wanted three very different looks expressed. We set up three backdrops inside my studio. The first look (Erica) was a Romantic/Rococo feel to it. We chose a warm/tungsten set-up. I then went about telling the Flourishers how and why I set up scenes as I do and how I work with my client. Note Erica is not a professional model, she just looks like one. ;) All of the amazing dresses were loaned to us by the inimitable Bluegrass Bride bridal shop. If you have not been there, you need to go and soon! The bridal gowns are amazing and the cocktail dresses are fantastic! It is a new gem in Lexington, KY.

Our fantastic penultimate gal was Leah. Leah is also not a professional model but could be if she wanted to be! When I saw her and saw the dress she was wearing I immediately thought "Avant-Garde". I wanted strong angles and cool, intense lighting. Her short hair and amazing almond eyes definitely called out for a more modern fashion approach to her photographs.

Our final scene was focusing on the modern beauty of Sarah. We used clean lines and modern colors to highlight her fantastic bone structure and striking hairstyle (thanks be to Rodney Farmer  from Salon Figaro, 859-489-8637, who did the hair for all of our clients that day). Sarah does some modeling on the side and was absolutely wonderful to work with.

The Flourish Workshop was incredible. It was mimosas in the afternoon, amazing dinners at night. It was great camaraderie. It was so much hands-on learning. It was a fabulous living-room-style workshop that was amazing to be a part of -- let alone be one of the people to run it! It was 19 photographers from all over the United States and the three of us. It was absolutely beautiful.

Day one of the workshop was more an evening experience. We had a cocktail reception and dinner in order to meet and greet our attendees. We wanted everyone to get to know one another well before we were all put into the actual workshop environment. It proved fantastic! And here are some photos to visually describe the experience (all of the photos are courtesy of the wonderful Sarah Babcock of Babcock Studios):

Above are the three of us before the cocktail party began (l-r: Kim, me, Kitty). We met a little earlier at 21C's Proof on Main to do a trial of the signature drink Breelyn Bomba, our gracious organizer, put together.

IMG_0336a-(37).jpgThe drink was the "Flourish Cocktail" and it was a champagne mixer that  was enjoyed by many!

IMG_0336a-(33).jpgDuring the cocktail hour we had appetizers brought out for us all to enjoy. You simply must try the octopus there. It has been my app of choice for at least a year! You can never get tired of it, especially with a little spritz of lime.

IMG_0336a-(11).jpg
And of course we had to pose with the dominating fixture at Proof.

IMG_0336a-(14).jpgKitty needed an extra photo. I totally understand. ;)

Ok, there is nothing wrong with a little silliness. I was just making my most "Fabulous" face. ;) At least I 'think' that was the look I was going for...

IMG_0336a-(52).jpg
Dinner at Proof was incredible. The service was wonderful. The deserts were so tasty. And it was so wonderful to sit with everyone and chat in such a relaxed environment (the champagne also helped the relaxing!). As you see in the photo above, Erich Camping is giving his thumbs up. This is a very good thing.

Bridal show, website updates...

I have been a busy gal!

Luckily things are back on track and time is beginning to be on my side again. It has been an amazing ride and I have so much fodder for blog updates! I just need the rest of my wallpaper applied, my custom pillows to come in, my new rug and my coffee table to arrive -- which should all be here in 2-3 weeks -- and I will be finished with the studio changes.

And Flourish was amazing. I cannot wait to share about the experience. Flourish had so many amazing students. The food was incredible. The 21C Hotel was absolutely fantastic and chic. The mimosas flowed freely. It was a little piece of Heaven.

And so many wonderful photo sessions and weddings to share! On their way soon. Until then I want to share some promo photographs I did for my fantastic friend, Kimberly Reed, my co-leader at Flourish, when she was just in town. She looks so stunning!
